Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

Posted on: April 15, 2008 10:15 am

The NFL is making a mistake in not having The NFL Network on cable. The NFL network carries games on Thursdays and Saturdays that people are not able to watch. I understand that they want money to put the channel on cable, but essentially the network is a promotion tool for the most watched sports league in America. Shouldn’t they want their “commercials” shown to the most people possible? I am not an advertising guru or anything like that but why would you not want the NFL network available to every house in America?

They are showing the 2009 Schedule today at 2:00 and half of the country will have to tune in to ESPN at 6:00 to get the updated schedule. If it could be watched live more people would be watching the NFL Network Commercials instead of ESPN commercial. I just don’t understand their reasoning for not having it broadcast to every house possible. I think that Roger Goddell is doing a great job, but this is one of his mistakes so far.

Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

It all about the money, the NFL feels it is popular enough to get more money from Cable networks to carry their channel. It also puts them in a league of there own to be the only major sport to own their own cabloe channel. The cost for the cable network to carry the channel is ridiculous and I can't blame the local cable networks for not carrying it. There is no reason to pay more for the NFL network over ESPN.

Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

Here are the games that are on the NFLN this season:

Jets at Patriots

Bengals at Steelers

Cardinals at Eagles

Raiders at Chargers

Saints at Bears

Colts at Jaguars

Ravens at Cowboys

Shouldn't all be able to watch these games?

Why isn't the NFL Network available everywhere?

The answer is simple -- get DirecTV.

When Cablevision refused to carry the YES Network, many people left Cablevision for DirecTV. Cablevision had no choice but to negotiate with YES.

When I switched to DirecTV, I got more channels, more sports and paid less money than cable. Complaining on a blog will not help. Cable companies only listen to the bottom line.

Your right Big_E, the only way to get it all is to get Direct TV.
